Changes
Hard truths and Foxy's future
Hi sweet friends, Livv here.
Well, it’s been a tough winter.
Emotionally, politically, financially, we’re feeling it on all sides.
And I’m going to be brutally honest- Foxy’s is going much, much slower than we initially anticipated. Even for a slow season. We knew starting a new business would be slow; we went through the first two months at Fox sometimes wondering if anyone would walk through the door all day.
But (and clearly we were naive), we thought the second kid would be different. We thought there would be more going on, more in a downtown environment, more momentum, more energy behind us this time, now that some people knew who we were.
And we were wrong. We’re admitting it. Full stop. We overstaffed, overpredicted, overestimated the hype. And god is it hard to be wrong. What a blow to the ego- and the bank account. We stripped down everything to the basics, we went back up to our 100+ hour work weeks, 7 days a week, Doni and I stopped taking paychecks in November, we did everything we could to make this work as is. We maxed out credit cards, personal and professional, cashed in retirements, took loans from our family. And still, we failed to make it happen.
So we’re making some hard, but necessary, and hopefully eventually positive, changes. We had a few folks choose to leave, we had to let some folks go who we hoped we would be working with forever, and that is definitely the worst part of all of this. I cannot begin to describe the heartache of the conversations I’ve had this week. The way these folks shaped the beginnings of our business, supported us, cared for this community, and built this thing, with such love, alongside us, is something we can never fully payback or honor enough. And certainly letting anyone go doesn’t honor them or their work. All I can say is that we went as long as we could before things hit all time, drastic lows, and we would rather let people go before paychecks start to bounce.
So, we’re going to pivot and keep these doors open however we can. We have to be endlessly resourceful and flexible right now; we have to make this work.
What does that mean for y’all? And what can you expect from Foxy’s moving forward?
Starting March 11th, Foxy’s will be open 7:30am-2:30pm Tuesday-Thursday, 7:30am-8pm Friday, and 9am-8pm Saturday, with later Friday and Saturday nights when events are happening.
We will still be serving up coffee, tea, espresso drinks, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, lunches, soups, and tons of grab n go options all day. You can still get your pot pies, enchiladas, and pizzas here for take home dinners! Friday and Saturday dinners will become a curated tasting menu designed and made by Liv every weekend, with a completely new dinner menu every week. Doni and Seana will be running the bar, serving beer, wine, and cocktails. We are imagining it as kind of re-envisioning of the good ol’ days at Fox Market, but with a real, full kitchen for Liv to play around in. Join us for an intimate dinner experience, with events like trivia, open mics, karaoke, live bands, and more.
All of this to say- if you have the resources, now is the time to come out and support Foxy’s and Fox Market. I say that without any ego left to save, with just the hope that these spaces which have my entire heart (and mind and health and happiness) will still be here a week, a month, a year from now.

i love you all. you have my support and thoughts.
Foxy’s is out new favorite place—hope you figure this out!
